No picture on my monitor

No signal, a black screen, or the monitor goes to sleep.

5 stepsFrom our US support team

Usually the monitor is plugged into the wrong port, or something came loose in shipping.

  1. Use the graphics card ports
Plug your monitor into an HDMI or DisplayPort port on the graphics card, the row lower on the back of the PC. The ports near the top usually won't show a picture. Vega models are the exception and use the top ports.
  2. Check your cables and input
Push the monitor cable in firmly at both ends and make sure the power cable is snug. Then set your monitor's input to the port you're using, like HDMI 1 or DisplayPort.
  3. Look for signs of power
Check that the fans spin and your keyboard and mouse light up. If nothing powers on at all, follow the guide for a PC that won't turn on.
  4. Reseat the graphics card
Shut down, switch off the power supply and unplug the PC. Remove the glass side panel, then press the graphics card firmly toward the motherboard until it's fully seated. Make sure its power cable is pushed all the way in too.
  5. Try again
Put the panel back, connect your monitor to the graphics card and turn the PC on.
Back of your PCPlug your monitor into the graphics card ports, lit up here. The ports marked with an X won't show a picture.
